Arkiv Vilmansa's Step Into My World opens this Wednesday, December 11, 2013!
It is said that artists are forever indebted to their reveries
and imagination. This is most true of Arkiv Vilmansa. An endless source of
inspiration is the daydreams that take the artist on unexpected journeys to
unknown lands, filled with extraordinary creatures. In this imaginary
landscape, a myriad of hybrid animals and plants are born. Plucked from their
dream state origins, these creatures take a life of their own in the canvases
of Arkiv.
Vilmansa intuitively understands that daydreaming is an indispensable
part of creativity, and the canvases presented in this exhibition demonstrate
this particular sensibility. It is the artist’s way of expressing that
daydreaming is not a mere mind vacuum, but a way to unlock artistic potentials
by embracing buried childhood memories.
Revisit the
daydreams of Indonesian artist Arkiv Vilmansa in his solo exhibition, Step Into
My World, this December 11, 2013 at 8pm!

It's all in the Mind
All in the mind
In the mind’s eye lives a delirious blur of illusions, both chaotic and serene. A clash of colors, abstract figures and the faint hint of familiarity lead’s the mind to think against itself and question its truth. Is it real? Or is it all in my head? In the crevices that separate the real from the surreal, we find the rhythmical and colorful chaos that Arkiv Vilmansa weaves.
With the immaterial proportions of a dream, Arkiv plays with irony and attempts to encapsulate madness in a box. With fluid lines and an ebbing tide of brazen colors, a spectrum in disarray and a backdrop of ambiguous imagery, equilibrium is formed.
Take a step into Arkiv’s world and gaze upon the faces and symphonies that play with reality and beg to question if it is all in the mind.
Indonesian artist Arkiv Vilmansa has certainly come along way from home. Since his debut in 2005 his work been featured in countless galleries all over the world, from Indonesia to the U.S., from Germany to the Philippines; all of which has made him a household name within the contemporary art and toy scene.
With the 2011 Biennale, a slew of exhibits past, forthcoming shows and an upcoming auction at the renowned Sotheby’s under his belt, Arkiv shows no signs of slowing down

ARKIV VILMANSA ONE MAN SHOW IN MANILA!
RELICS, his second Philippine one-man show will open on December 16, 2011 at Vinyl on Vinyl gallery. With his consequent shows in Los Angeles, Indonesia and Singapore, there's no stopping Vilmansa from filling the world with the fluidity of his colorful iconic characters.

Arkiv Vilmansa is based in Bandung, Indonesia, where he received formal training as an architect and graphic designer. Initially gaining international recognition with his vinyl toys, Vilmansa then began painting with acrylic on canvas that have now become his main media.
Since 2008, Vilmansa has consistently exhibited his works in group and solo shows, receiving critical acclaim from the global art world.
"RELICS"
"This exhibition marks the artist exploring the felt abstraction of memory, trying to capture the spirit of the Phillipines as he remembers it, rather than representing it figuratively. These works communicate the retained fragments of times past, that are now returning - as relics to the present. Memory is inaccurate and prejudiced, but theybestow depth to experiences and make them unique. These paintings do not directly show us coastal lines, palm trees and the turquoise sea of the tropics, but the experience of these phenomena as they are preserved in the artistís memory. His unique, curvaceous lines and luscious colours dance elegantly on these canvases as if to a graceful rythm. A rhythm we cannot hear, but feel. Memory is a wild terrain, where one could so easily lose their way.
This exhibition marks Vilmansa's way of taming the wilderness, to make sense of his memories, in order to share that experience with others."
